A Step Team is a team that performs a unique dance art form that originated in Africa. Stepping is a form of percussive dance in which the participants' entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken works and hand claps.
The purpose of the FMS Step Team is to create an atmosphere of unity and diversification through stepping and group creativity. The group’s primary responsibility is to entertain, give back through community service projects, develop a sense of pride, gain leadership skills, and develop a camaraderie between their teammates. Our motto is Live, Laugh, Love and Lift.
The team will start off with a bonding activity chosen by the team. Our performances will include FMS Black History Programs, churches, FMS basketball halftime shows, competitions, touring college campuses, performing at our feeder schools, etiquette classes, dining at a fancy restaurant, fundraising, attending worship services, and celebrating through the year festering in our similarities (movies, games, eating…). We will climax with our EOY Banquet to share our accomplishments. Our ultimate goal is to build on our accomplishments from last year, and embrace new challenges enjoying the moments through living, laughing, loving, and lifting. (SEE PHOTO GALLERY BELOW)
