FMS Media Center is the center of all learning and information. We strive to prepare our students for college and career readiness through use of information literacy and technology instruction. Our library collection encompasses 14,000 print and digital resources aligned with curriculur requirements to enhance the learning experience at Freedom Middle School.
An emphasis on literacy and improving fluency and comprehension is a priority effort. Our library media program offers a variety of activities to promote reading and lifelong learning. The Fantastic Freedom Library Card (located in the student's agenda planner) brings awareness to Lexile measure and allows students to track the books read within their Lexile range.
Rams Read is an individual reading competition that is available to all students. The requirement to participate is to complete a book summary OR element book card (character study, plot, theme, setting, opinion, chapter summary) and turn it in to the media center staff. By the end of the semester, the top 5 students with the most summaries will win prizes.
Our fall semester 1st place winner was Muhammad Sosseh, 8th grader and winner of a Kindle Fire.
Our grade level reading competition, "Blow your Raministrator off the roof!" determines which grade-level administrator will dance and blow their horn on the roof of the school. The grade levels that reach our goal of 4000 books read by April 15, 2018 will participate in the celebration. Each semester, we hold a Reading Pep Rally with the Clarkston High School Marching band, reading relay games, motivational speakers, prizes, and special recognition.
